Reception and Form 1 Football Festival at the Etihad

On Friday 5th October the boys in Form 1 and Reception went along to the Etihad to play in a Football Festival organised by the Manchester City Youth Academy Coaches.

They played five group games, all of which resulted in draws which meant we ended up playing in the 1st v 2nd playoff. Our opposition in this match being the Ryley’s, the game started well with a quick goal put away expertly into the right hand corner by Caleb. After a lot of great play by the WPS boys the Ryley’s were awarded a penalty which WPS goalkeeper Thomas was unlucky to stop which saw the score 1-1 with a couple of minutes left to play. Quick ball play by James and Bailey saw an opportunity to score fall at the feet of Sebastian who with cool composure shot to the left of the keeper which saw the victory sealed and the tournament belonging to the boys from WPS.

The boys had a fantastic morning of football, which saw them netting 7 goals in total.  Scoring honours to our forwards Caleb and Sebastian who put away 4 and 3 goals respectively. James and Jack were brilliant in defense along side keeper Thomas. Ed, Torin, Hashim, Gio and Otto had great spells in the midfield. Arman and Shayan were unlucky not to score when they played up front. Tackle of the day went to Bailey who hotfooted it from attack to make a strong defensive tackle to thwart The Ryley’s forward from scoring. Man of the match Elliot took the whole morning in his stride and his smile captivated everyone who saw it.

Thank you to Mrs Pierce and Mrs Hornby for being great supporters on the sideline, spurring the boys to their well deserved victory.
