Prep 5 & 6 Shine in Spectacular Performance of Matilda

There was magic in the air at Wilmslow Preparatory School as our talented Prep 5 and Prep 6 children took to the stage to perform the much-loved musical Matilda. Following months of rehearsals, dedication and hard work, the production was thoroughly enjoyed by all and provided a fitting finale for our Year 6 pupils as they prepare to embark on the next stage of their educational journey.

From the opening number to the final curtain call, the children captivated parents, families and staff with their exceptional performances. Every cast member embraced their role with confidence and enthusiasm, bringing the much-loved characters to life through outstanding acting, expressive characterisation and infectious energy.

The production showcased the incredible breadth of talent within our school. Whether performing as Matilda, Miss Honey, Miss Trunchbull or one of the many colourful supporting characters, each child demonstrated remarkable stage presence and commitment. Their confidence shone through in every scene, with clear dialogue, engaging performances and a maturity well beyond their years.

One of the highlights of the show was undoubtedly the music. The children performed each song with enthusiasm, confidence and beautifully blended harmonies that filled the theatre. Their powerful singing voices and lively choreography created memorable moments throughout the performance, earning well-deserved applause. It was evident how much time and effort had gone into perfecting every routine, with the children supporting and encouraging one another every step of the way.

The audience’s reaction spoke volumes. Parents, grandparents and friends were thoroughly entertained, laughing at the comedy, appreciating the heartfelt moments and marvelling at the professionalism of such a young cast. The ovation at the end of the performance was a testament to the children’s hard work and dedication, as well as the unwavering support they received from staff throughout the rehearsal process.

Headteacher Mr Slater commented “Productions such as Matilda offer so much more than an opportunity to perform. They help children develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and communication skills, encouraging them to step outside their comfort zones and discover talents they may never have realised they possessed. Watching the children grow in confidence from the first rehearsal to the final performance has been a privilege for everyone involved”

For our Year 6 pupils, the production marked a particularly poignant milestone. As their final school performance before moving on to senior school in September, it provided the perfect opportunity to celebrate everything they have achieved during their time at Wilmslow Preparatory School. Their maturity, kindness and support for one another both on and off the stage reflected the values that underpin our school community.

The pride felt by our teachers was immense. Having watched the children develop throughout their Prep School years, seeing them perform with such confidence, creativity and professionalism was incredibly rewarding. Every member of staff involved in the production was inspired by the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the entire cast.

A huge thank you also goes to our wonderful parents for their continued encouragement and support throughout rehearsals and performances. Your enthusiasm made the experience even more special for the children.

Congratulations to every pupil who took part in Matilda. It was an unforgettable production, filled with laughter, music and magical moments that will be remembered for years to come. For our Year 6 children, it was the perfect way to celebrate the end of their Prep School journey—a spectacular performance that reflected not only their incredible talents, but also the confidence, friendships and memories they will carry with them into the exciting next chapter of their education.
